The Fuel Cell Surge Tank (FCST) is a fill plate replacement for popular fuel cells including ATL, FuelSafe, Pyrotect, Harmon, Jaz, etc. The FCST is designed for EFI vehicles experiencing fuel pump starvation issues while using a competition fuel cell. The FCST is NOT a pseudo "surge tank" trap door box. It is the first of its kind to feature a true dual-chamber fuel tank utilizing a single lift pump and up to three surge tank pumps, all in a compact drop-in package.
The FCST also provides a quick and easy way to drop-in an upgraded fuel pump system for extra flow for vehicles with large power demand upgrades such as forced induction. Alcohol fuels such as E85, methanol, etc can be safely used.
*Integrated Surge Tank*
The FCST uses the tried and true Radium Engineering fuel surge tank system preferred by professional motorsports teams worldwide. The optimized 2.2 liter canister supports 1, 2, or 3 internally mounted surge tank pumps capable of up to 1,350LPH @ 43psi.
The fuel pumps inside the surge tank provide the primary fueling to the engine. The "lift pump" mounts next to the surge tank canister and keeps the chamber filled with fuel. The volume of fuel inside the surge tank acts as a buffer to always keep the surge tank pump(s) supplied with fuel. This volume is also maintained by the "return" from the fuel pressure regulator. Excess fuel in the integrated surge tank bleeds out into the fuel cell without the need of an expensive hose and fittings. All of this is done inside the fuel cell with the FCST.
Below is a quick demonstration of how a basic fuel surge tank systems work.
The surge tank incorporates a multi-pin high amperage sealed electrical bulkhead connector that has 1 connector for each of the 3 selectable pumps. All internal wires are gasoline, ethanol, and methanol compliant. Furthermore, the internal tube and hoses are a special fluoroelastomer formulation that is suitable for submersion in all types of fuel.

*Selecting the Fuel Pump Configuration*
The FCST is available with or without fuel pumps. Radium assumes that the lift pump and the surge tank pumps will be the same brand so the internal wiring connectors for the surge tank pumps and the lift pumps will always be the same.
If you are going to use your own pumps or source pumps elsewhere, select the option "Surge Tank Pumps and Lift Pump Not Included" from the drop down. Note that there will be enough components included with this option to use 1, 2, or 3 surge tank pumps. Depending on the setup, some parts will simply not be used. Next, select the type of pumps that will be used so the appropriate internal wiring connectors will be included in the kit.
If pumps are needed, the FCST will come preassembled and sock filters will be installed on all fuel pumps. First, select the preferred number of surge tank pumps that will be used from the pull down menu. The FCST is sold in 1, 2, or 3 surge tank pump configurations with 1 lift pump. Next, select the type of pumps that will be used so the appropriate internal wiring connectors will be included in the kit. Note that the surge tank pump's wiring harness is always configured to use up to 3 pumps even if only 1 surge tank pump is selected.
The anodized green fittings signify the surge tank fuel pump outlets to the engine. These are available in -6AN male only. If only 1 surge tank pump is used, the "PUMP2" and "PUMP3" ports are plugged using the included anodized aluminum port plugs. If 2 surge tank pumps are used, the "PUMP3" port is plugged using the included anodized aluminum port plug. If 3 surge tank pumps are used, the included anodized aluminum port plugs will not be used.
The "RETURN" black port fitting is used for low pressure fuel returning from the fuel pressure regulator. This port is tapped with 3/4"-16 threads and a -6AN male fitting is included. However, larger -8AN or -10AN male port adapter fittings can be purchased separately HERE if required.
*Fuel Cell* A fuel cell is not included in this kit. However, the fuel cell MUST use a 6x10, 24-bolt fill plate flange. The fuel cell cannot be any shorter than 8 inches. The distance from the top of the fuel cell to the bottom of the lift pump filter (lowest point of the kit) is adjustable (8-11 inches depending on how the lift pump is mounted). If the fuel cell is deeper than 11 inches, use this Radium Fuel Pump Inlet Adapter to relocate the lift pump filter to the bottom of the fuel cell. For the ultimate in fuel starvation protection, the lift pump or pickup filter can be placed into the Radium Collector Box.
The FCST uses a 3/4" (19mm) vent hole. If you don't currently have a roll over protection fitting, this Radium -8AN Vent Valve can be used.
If you do not currently have a 6-bolt (2.18" B.C.) filler, this Radium Fill Neck is unique in that it can be used for direct filling or remote filling.
